Obituaries Elliot Alper Mr. Alper, 84, of Marlboro, died Sept. 15 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had resided in Sunrise, Fla., and Marlboro for the past 22 years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Irene; a daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Sam Rein, of the Morganville section of Marlboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Elizabeth Alper, of Randolph; a brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Frances Alper, of Silver Spring, Md.; a sister, Beatrice Alper, of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, followed by burial at Old Montefiore Cemetery, St. Albans, Queens, N.Y. Michael J. O’Donnell Mr. O’Donnell, 56, of Howell, died Sept. 19 at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia. Surviving are his wife, Arlene; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Annie; two daughters, Jennifer and Jessica; a sister, Patricia; and a grandson, Matthew. A memorial service was held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan.
Charles A. Clowes Mr. Clowes, 70, of Wall Township, died Sept. 20 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Trenton, he had resided in Wall for the past 41 years. Prior to retiring in 1983, he was a sergeant for the New Jersey State Police for 26 years. An avid golfer and motorcycle enthusiast, he was also a member of the Colts Neck Reformed Church. Surviving are his wife, Marianna; two sons, Duane A. Clowes, of Forked River, and Mark C. Clowes, of Wall; a daughter, Diane White, of Wall; a brother, Richard R. Clowes, of Hopewell; a sister, Norma Fish, of Ewing; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Colts Neck Reformed Church, followed by interment at Atlantic Cemetery, Colts Neck. Gary Alan Berg Mr. Berg, 36, of Marlboro, died Sept. 23 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York City. A lifelong Marlboro resident, he was the owner of Gary’s Name Brand Shoes, Marlboro, and was also a newly published author. He is survived by his parents, Carol and Stephen Berg; a sister, Ivy Tencer; and a nephew, Mathew. A funeral service was held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, followed by interment at Mount Sinai Cemetery, Marlboro. Ferdinando “Fred” Casale Mr. Casale, 73, of Manalapan, died Sept. 21 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving eight years ago to Manalapan, where he was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church. A Korean War veteran, he owned Joe’s Cafeteria in Brooklyn for 50 years prior to retiring three years ago. He was predeceased by two brothers, Dominic and Thomas Casale. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Anna; a son and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Robyn Casale, of Staten Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Josephine and James Golando, of Manalapan; two brothers, Joseph Casale, of Staten Island, and Angelo Casale, of Jackson; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Thomas More Church, followed by entombment at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
Vicken G. Karakashian Mr. Karakashian, 61, of Middletown, died Sept. 23 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jerusalem, he resided in Newark before moving to Middletown in 1965. Mr. Karakashian was a senior technician at Sears, Middletown, for 40 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of St. Stepanos Armenian Apostolic Church, Elberon section of Long Branch, where was a senior deacon. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Karakashian was predeceased by his father, Garabed Karakashian, and his mother, Kayane Hairabedian. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Maral Pilavian Karakashian; two sons, Raffi Karakashian and Ara Karakashian, both Middletown; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Haroutun and Serpouhi Karakashian, Middletown, and Nubar and Meline Karakashian, Morganville. A funeral service was held at St. Stepanos Church. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth L. “Moose” Humphries Mr. Humphries, 70, of Whiting, died Sept. 24 at home. Born in Keyport, he was a lifelong resident prior to moving to Whiting three years ago. He was a retired certified oil burner mechanic at Leonard’s Fuel Co., Union Beach, and Stultz Fuel Co., Keyport, where he was employed for 41 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4247, Keyport. He enjoyed bowling and golf. He was predeceased by his father, Archibald Humphries; a brother, George Humphries; and a son, Thomas Richard Humphries. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Rose Humphries; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth and MaryAnn Humphries Jr., of Hazlet, David Humphries, of Freehold, and Lance and Carol Humphries, of Wall; two daughters and one son-in-law, Elizabeth and Timothy Maher, of Keyport, and Jo Ann Humphries, of Highlands; his mother, Grace Florence Lawrence, of Inverness, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Debbie Humphries, of Floral City, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Jane Humphries, of Middletown; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Keyport. Interment was at Green Grove Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
