Sports Shorts The Rat Pack, the oldest team (average age, 42) in the Manalapan Recreation Spring/Summer Softball League, won the 2004 championship. The Rat Pack (17-8 overall), defeated regular-season champion Restronics for the title. Pitcher Mike Tobin stepped it up in the playoffs for the champions. Outfielders Frank Simonetti, Alan Moed, Larry Rose, Phila Damato, Joe Perez and Paul Myers ran down one long fly ball after another to frustrate the heavy-hitting Restronics team, which went through the regular season with a perfect record. Infielders Mark Crocco, Anthony Reneri, Jeremy Weinstein, Gene Mikulewicz, Pete Karczewski, Paul Serra and Eddie Pioppo played superbly throughout the team’s postseason run. The hitting was spread-out equally among all of the Rat Pack batters. Paul Serra came up with a number of big wins on the mound for the Rat Pack during the regular season. Larry Rose is the coach of the Rat Pack, who two years ago won just four games.
