James Nelson

Mr. Nelson, 72, of Freehold died Jan. 17 at home. Born in Newark, he resided in Manalapan and in Sidney, Australia, before moving to Freehold five years ago. He was president and owner of J. Nelson Printing, Freehold, for more than 25 years. Prior to that, he owned a printing business in Red Bank. Mr. Nelson is survived by two daughters, Alice Nelson of Oceanport and Susan Bookout of San Diego, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Janet Nelson of Oceanport; and one granddaughter. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Deborah Heart Foundation, New Jersey Region, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills 08015.

Mildred Moorhead

Mrs. Moorhead, 93, of Freehold died Jan. 17 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Lansdale, Pa., she had resided in Metuchen with her husband, Thomas, for 35 years before moving in April 1990 to Applewood Estates, Freehold Township. She was a 1927 graduate of Lansdale High School and a 1932 graduate of Pennsylvania’s Germantown Hospital. A registered nurse, she was a graduate student at New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center, New York City, where she worked in obstetrics/gynecology (Ob/Gyn) for 15 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen, where she was a former deaconess. Surviving is a nephew (and his family), John Heckler of Lansdale. A graveside service was held at the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Metuchen. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Lori Hudson

Ms. Hudson, 35, of Neptune Township died Jan. 7 at home. Born in Lakewood, she had lived there before moving to Freehold for two years and then to Neptune Township last year. For the past decade, she worked as a certified nurse’s aide in various hospitals. She was a member of the Bibleway Church of Christ, Neptune Township, where she served as a missionary, Sunday school teacher and choir member. Prior to that, she had served as an usher, deaconess and choir member at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, Lakewood, and had also been a member of the Antioch First Church of the Lord, Allentown. She was predeceased by her parents, Essie Mae and Robert Hudson. Surviving are five brothers, Richard, Michael, Timothy, Samuel David, and Christopher Hudson, all of Lakewood; three sisters, Rosalind, April and Antoinette Hudson, all of New Jersey; her paternal grandmother, Willa Lovett Hudson of Freehold; and two aunts and an uncle, Kathy Alston, and Annie and Carl Conover, all of Lakewood. Funeral services were held at the Bibleway Church of Christ, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

William J. Buckle Jr.

Mr. Buckle, 51, of Freehold died Jan. 18 at home. Born in New Brunswick, he had served in the U.S. Army and then settled in Hawaii and California before returning to Freehold in 2001. He was employed at the Monmouth County Courthouse, Freehold, for the state of New Jersey. He was predeceased by his father, William J. Buckle. Surviving are his mother, Louise Buckle of Freehold; a sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and J. Leonard Sadowsky of Manalapan; and a nephew, Robert F. Bresnahan Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Funeral services were held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment, which was private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702-4201.

Mary T. McGinn Novak

Mrs. Novak, 73, of Pottstown, Pa., died Jan. 21 at Pottstown Memorial Hospital. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she had lived in Freehold before moving to Pennsylvania four years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. She was predeceased in 1990 by her husband, William. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, William G. and Brenda Novak of Pottstown, and Christopher Novak of Wynnewood, Pa., and his fiancée, Carmel Gill; two brothers, Michael McGinn of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Robert McGinn of Levittown, Pa.; a sister, Anne Marie McGinn of Belleville; and two grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Louise M. Pancoe

Ms. Pancoe, 78, of Covered Bridge, Manalapan, died Jan. 23 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Perth Amboy, she had lived there before moving to Covered Bridge 25 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1985, she worked for 41 years in various office positions for the former J.E. Hurley Lumber Co., Perth Amboy. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, and a former communicant of St. Mary’s and Holy Spirit Roman Catholic churches, both located in Perth Amboy. As a young woman, she was very active in parish and regional Sodalities of the Blessed Virgin Mary, for which she had also served as president. She was predeceased by her parents, Stella (née Andryszewski) and Paul Pancoe; and a brother, Paul T. Surviving are a brother, Richard E., with whom she had lived; a sister-in-law, Dorothy; an aunt, Josephine Homa; two nephews and their wives, Paul and Mary, and David and Julie, all of California; five grandnephews; and many cousins and friends. Funeral services were held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.

Peter George Buttacavoli

Mr. Buttacavoli, 81, of Marlboro, died Jan. 6 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York City, he had lived in Branchville before moving to Marlboro 19 years ago. A communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro, he was an electrical engineer for Hewlett-Packard, Holmdel, before retiring in 1986. He was predeceased by a sister, Grace Vicari. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Peter Buttacavoli of LaCrescenta, Calif., George Buttacavoli of Brick, and Thomas and Amanda Buttacavoli of Reno, Nev.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Helene and Alan Levy of Atlanta, Linda Hoffman of Branchville, and Gail and Tim Thompson of Big Timber, Mont.; a sister, Nina Hepner of Fort Lee; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by interment, which was private. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 710 W. 168th St., New York, NY 10032-9982.

Thelma H. Dowding

Mrs. Dowding, 66, of Manalapan died Jan. 12 at home. Born in Brooklyn, she lived in At­lanta, Ga., for five years before moving to Manalapan 35 years ago. She was a member of Emley’s Hill United Methodist Church, Cream Ridge. Mrs. Dowding was a supervisor of con­sumer affairs at Foodarama Supermarkets, Freehold. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph Keith, in 1977. Mrs. Dowding is sur­vived by her husband, Joseph; two daughters and a son-in-law, Robin and Bruce Blaisdell of New Egypt, and Christine Dowding of Denver, Colo; a sister, Eileen Clerkin of Queens, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Freeman Manalapan-Malboro Fu­neral Home, Manalapan. A funeral service was held at Emley’s Hill United Methodist Church, Cream Ridge, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.
