Obituaries Mrs. Clemente, 87, of South Windsor, Conn., formerly of Toms River, died Nov. 30 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a dressmaker for various shops in Brooklyn until retiring at age 56. She was also a member of Brooklyn’s International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry "Rosario" Clemente, in 2001. Surviving are three daughters, Catherine Costa of South Windsor, Annette Attanasio of Staten Island, N.Y., and Christine Infuso of Freehold Township; a sister, Katherine Ischia of Brooklyn; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village (Queens), N.Y. John A. Peterson Mr. Peterson, 59, of Howell died Nov. 28 at home. Born in Nyack, N.Y., he had lived in Woodbridge and Keasbey before moving to Howell 20 years ago. For the past 13 years, he was a mechanic for Stern’s Rental Co., Farmingdale. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Freehold, and the New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, Brick. Surviving are his wife, Ann Marie Peterson; three sons, Joseph Ponzo of Jackson, David Peterson of Virginia Beach, Va., and John B. Peterson of Wall; two daughters, Jennelle and Jamie Peterson, both of Howell; his mother, Elizabeth Peterson of South Glen Falls, N.Y.; two brothers, Charles Peterson and William T. Garrison; five sisters, Katherine Peterson, Mary Ann Croteau, Alice Bower, Frances Parkin and Elizabeth Mary Tracy; and two grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, with the Rev. Joseph Sorce officiating. Interment followed at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. Alfred P. Kahwaty Mr. Kahwaty, 72, of Freehold Township died Dec. 1 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Freehold Township for the past 40 years. He worked for U.S. Steel, New York City, for 18 years and Triangle Industries, New Brunswick, for 14 years before working for 10 years as a national sales director at Pharmafair Inc., New York City, until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Amale Sawaya; five sons, Leon Kahwaty of Allentown, Pa., Joseph Kahwaty and Alfred Kahwaty Jr., both of Freehold, John Kahwaty of Destin, Fla., and James Kahwaty of Jackson; two daughters, Theresa Lithgow of Freehold and Virginia Tomczak of Jackson; a brother, Henry Kahwaty of Maryland; a sister, Claudette Haughie of Manalapan; and seven grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold. Jean M. McDougall Mrs. McDougall, 87, of Freehold Township died Dec. 2 at home. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Nutley before moving to Freehold Township six years ago, and from an early age had spent summers at Long Beach Island. For more than 30 years, she was a laboratory technician for International Telephone and Telegraph (ITT) Corp., Nutley, before retiring 17 years ago., and a patent holder for a semiconductor circuit element that was developed at ITT. She was a lifetime member of Grace Episcopal Church, Nutley, where she was also a member of the Couples Club; a member of the Nutley Little Theater, where she was known for her sense of humor; and the Four Cylinder Club of America Inc. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and crewel work. She was predeceased by five sisters and four brothers. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Miller Koehler and Herman Koehler of Freehold, with whom she had lived; and Stephanie Miller Diamond and Ronald Diamond of Morristown; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Grace Episcopal Church. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
