Obituaries Ms. Zigenfus, 72, of Mountainside, formerly of Manalapan, died Oct. 9 at Manor Care Mountainside in Union County. Born in East Orange, she lived in Manalapan and Elizabeth before moving to Mountainside. She was predeceased by her father, William Zigenfus, and a sister, Lynn Battersby. She is survived by her mother, Marie Zigenfus of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, Robert Zigenfus, also of Evansville, and Gary Zigenfus of Plano, Texas; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held Oct. 18 from 2-4 p.m. at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 north, Manalapan. Carone Mr. Carone, 60, of Freehold Township died Oct. 10 at Cavalry Hospital in the Bronx. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Freehold Township 19 years ago. He was a Vietnam veteran in the United States Army who rose to the rank of staff sergeant with the 1st Infantry Division and was also a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient. He was employed in the securities industry, where he served as chairman and/or president of committees and divisions that the Securities Industry Association formed in order to address national and global financial regulatory issues. In 2003 he completed 25 years of service at Merrill Lynch. He also designed the content for the Esophageal Cancer Education Foundation Web site. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dominic A. and Pamela Carone Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y., and Michael Carone of Framingham, Mass.; a brother, Raymond Carone of Massapequa, N.Y. He had also been expecting his first grandchild. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church in Marlboro, followed by entombment at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro. George Christopher Hendry Mr. Hendry, 80, of Freehold died Oct. 6 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Born in Winter Haven, Fla., he had lived in Howell and Freehold Township before moving to Freehold 25 years ago. He was the owner and operator of Freehold Taxi, Freehold, for 30 years. Prior to that, for 17 years he had owned and operated George’s Taxi in Howell. He was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold, and a former member of the Sixth Street Baptist Church, Lakewood. He was also the former chairman for the Freehold Borough Assistance Board. He was predeceased by two sons, Robert Durham Hendry and Bobby Hendry; a brother, James Quarterman; and a sister, Dorothy J. Waters. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Lillie Ham Hendry; three daughters, Gloria Jean Hendry of Granada Hills, Calif., Milika Gladys Hendry of Pasadena, Calif., and Jeanette Williams of South Brunswick; three brothers, John Hendry of San Diego, Calif., Allen Henry of Winter Haven, Fla., and Herbert Lee Hendry of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Charlotte M. Rounds Mrs. Rounds, 87, of Tinton Falls died Oct. 5 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge Division. Born in Howell, she resided in Aberdeen prior to moving to Tinton Falls three years ago. She was a homemaker and co-proprietor with her husband of Highway Garage, Colts Neck and Matawan, until 1963. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles A. Rounds, in 1989; and a daughter, Joyce McGee, in 1998. She is survived by her son, Charles A. Rounds of Tinton Falls; two daughters, Darcy Sullivan of Half Moon Bay, Calif., and Frances Rounds of Kansas City, Mo.; her brother, Willard Conk of Vero Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Oct. 8 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia. Sophie M. Ballon Corbett Mrs. Corbett, 88, formerly of South River, died Oct. 2 in Pine Brook Care Center, Manalapan. Her husband, Russell, died in 1995, and a son, James, died in 1974. Surviving are a son, Donald F. Corbett Sr. of Englishtown; a brother, Stanley Ballon of Throop, Pa.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Marie Braitsch of South River. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River. Margaret J. Ferko Mrs. Ferko, 87, of Lawrenceville, died Oct. 11 at Tandem Healthcare of Lawrenceville. Born in Plainfield, she was a longtime resident of Avenel before moving to Lawrenceville four years ago. Mrs. Ferko was a clerk for Purolator Industries in Rahway for 20 years. She was a former communicant of St. Andrew’s Church, Avenel. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul W. Ferko Sr.; a son, Paul W. Ferko Jr., who had been a resident of Freehold; two daughters, Marjorie Fontenelli and Mary Lou Brown; and a grandson, Bret Fontenelli. Mrs. Ferko is survived by two daughters, Joan Mastowski of Lavallette and Joyce Erhardt of Lawrenceville; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Freeman Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements. Cecelia Pitcher Mrs. Pitcher, 68, of Freehold Township, died on Oct. 7 at home. Born in New York City, she had lived in the Freehold area for the past 35 years. A parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold, she was a former member of the St. Rose of Lima PTA, as well as a member of the Silvermead Community Center, Freehold Township. An active dancer, Mrs. Pitcher was a medical assistant and bookkeeper for Dr. B. Richmond in Freehold. Surviving are her husband, Richard; a son, Thomas Christopher Pitcher of Freehold Township; a daughter, Kathleen Mary Salerno of Farmingdale; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held at the C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia, followed by a Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment took place at Brig. Gen. William C. Anna Sophie Deschon Mrs. Deschon, 90, of Freehold died Oct. 3 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Kurstedt, Germany, she resided in Riegelsville, Pa., before moving to Freehold in 1978. She and her husband were the proprietors of George’s Deli, Denville, from 1969-73. Prior to that, she was a grocery clerk for the Acme Markets in Roxbury. She was predeceased by her husband, Willy, in 1992, as well as five sisters and a brother. Surviving are a son, Robert W. Deschon of Fairless Hills, Pa.; a daughter, Madeline B. Deschon of Freehold; and a brother, Heinie Rathjen of Germany. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by a private burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Iselin. Steven D. Domenick Mr. Domenick, 50, of Aberdeen died Oct. 7 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Angola, Ind., he resided in Jersey City and the Fords section of Woodbridge prior to moving to Aberdeen in 1979. He was sales manager, motor fuels sales at Amerada Hess, Woodbridge, for 30 years. He coached baseball and soccer for leagues in Matawan and Aberdeen. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Kramer Domenick; his parents, Samuel and Honey Kopf Domenick of Fords; three daughters and one son, Jennifer, Stephanie, Samantha and Bryan Domenick, all at home; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Michele Domenick of Wall; and a sister, Suzy Domenick of Freehold. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
