DR. LESTER B. YOUNG, 83, of Johnson City, Tenn., died July 5 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton, Tenn. A graduate of Auburn (Ala.) University School of Veterinary Medicine, he was the owner of Young’s Animal Clinic, Johnson City, before retiring in 1983. He served on the Tennessee State Veterinary Examining Board and was one of the organizers of the Appalachian Veterinary Association. He was awarded the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Young was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He was also a member of the Horticulture Interest Society. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bert and Raymond Young, and two sisters, Lola Remine Carter and Lela Lacy. Surviving are his wife, Geneva Gouge Young, of Johnson City; two sons, Lester B. Young Jr. and his wife, Adele, of Freehold Township, and George S. Young and his wife, Pam, of Elizabethton; a daughter, Marlene, and her husband, Dr. Andy Collins of Kingsport, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Alan Young and his wife, Amanda, of Philadelphia, Leslie Young of Freehold Township, Andy and Matthew Young of Elizabethton, and Kimberly and Christopher Collins of Kingsport; and a brother, Roy Young of Johnson City. The funeral service was conducted at First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, followed by interment at the Patton-Simmons Cemetery, Carter County, Tenn.

DORA GIGGENBACH, 97, of Howell, died July 4 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Turkheim, Germany, she came to New York City in 1930 and resided in Freehold prior to moving to Howell in 1952. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lakewood Maennorchor, and the Silvermead Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, Freehold Township. She was predeceased by her husband, Casper Giggenbach in 1992. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Karl E. and Shirley Giggenbach; her sister, Theresa Maier of Turkheim, Germany; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. WILLIAM A. AGOVINO, 58, of Manalapan, died July 5 at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center, New Brunswick. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided there several years prior to moving to Manalapan. He was a salesman at Patterson Dental Co., Totowa. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He ws a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. He is survived by his wife, Frances Barone Agovino of Manalapan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Dawn Agovino of the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick, and William A. and Christie Agovino of Santa Clarita, Calif.; his daughter, April Agovino of Manalapan; his mother, Viola Agovino of Freehold, N.Y.; his sister and brother-in-law, Lola and Ed Migliaccio of Freehold, N.Y.; and his grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. Interment was at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.

ANGRIK STEPANOW, 46, of Yardville, died July 5 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Neptune, he resided in Howell and Robbinsville prior to moving to Yardville in 1998. He was a senior project manager at All-tech Inc., Monroe, the past 14 years. He was a member of the Temple Nitsan, Howell. He played for the New Jersey Americans professional soccer team, and played on award-winning soccer teams at Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y., and Howell High School, where he also made the Hall of Fame for soccer. He was predeceased by his father, Boris Stepanow in 1985; his mother, Anna Stepanow in 1990; and a brother, Alexander in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Sara Stepanow of Yardville; two daughters, Katarina and Annalisa, both at home; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Badma and Ling-Shia Stepanow of Langhorn, Pa., Basan Stepanow of Howell, Narma and Ellen Stepanow of Brick, and Danara Stepanow of Philadelphia; and his sister, Sagma Stepanow of Manassas, Va. A funeral service was at Nitsan Temple, Howell. Interment was at St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Jackson. Arrangements were by C.H.T. Clayton and Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell.

JEAN PLATANIA, 87, of Manalapan, died July 7 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Sicily, Italy, she resided in Queens, N.Y., and West Palm Beach, Fla., prior to moving to Manalapan three years ago. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Carol Platania of Manalapan; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Thomas More. Entombment was at St. Rose of Lima Mausoleum, Freehold Township.

DOROTHY S. LeVAN, 98, of Freehold, died July 8 at Applewood Estates, Freehold Township. Born in Reading, Pa., she resided in Sellersville, Pa., and the Short Hills section of Millburn prior to relocating to Freehold in 1993. She was a retired assistant to the treasurer at Berks County Trust Co., Reading, Pa. She was an accomplished mu­sician and specialized in piano and organ compo­sitions. She was a former active volunteer at the American Red Cross, Girl Scouts and Grandview Hospital, Sellersville, Pa. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ambrose E. LeVan of Freehold; her daughter, Joan Jones; three grand­children and three great-grandchildren. Interment was at Gethsemani Cemetery, Reading, Pa. Memorial donations may be made to Applewood Estates Residents Assistance Fund, 1 Applewood Drive, Freehold 07728.

ALMA MAE BLACK, 72, of Freehold, died July 9 at home. Born in Freehold, she was a life­long resident. She was predeceased by her son, Stephen, in 1995. She is survived by her husband, Robert Black of Freehold; her daughter and son-in-law, Lori and William Johnson of Jackson; her brother, Joe Groth of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sisters, Dot Jones of Manasquan, and Harriet Ketcham and Mary Quinn, both of Freehold; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were by the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold.

NELLIE BATTISTA BERRYMAN, 83, of Freehold, died July 2 at home. Mrs. Berryman was born in Scranton, Pa., and had lived in Dunmore, Pa., before moving to Freehold more than 50 years ago. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School, Dunmore, Pa., and Marywood University, Scranton, Pa. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, a former member of the church Parish Council, a former member of St. Rose of Lima Court No. 737, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, a member of the St. Rose of Lima PTA, a charter member of the Monmouth County Retired Teachers Association, and was active in the formation of Freehold Area Hospital, now known as CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Berryman was a teacher in the Ardena, West Freehold and Colts Neck schools for 25 years before her re­tirement in 1970. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph L. Berryman, who died in 2002; her parents, Peter and Marry Battista; and a sis­ter, Catherine Igoe. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Suzanne Berryman and Joseph and Kathleen Berryman, all of Freehold; a daughter, Marry Ellen Berryman, at home; two sisters, Genevieve Sileo and Lucille Battista, both of Dunmore, Pa.; five grandchil­dren, Tiffany, Joseph, Jaclyn, Brittany and Austin; and several nieces and nephews. A fu­neral liturgy was held at St. Rose of Lima, fol­lowed by interment at the parish cemetery. Memorial donations to the VNA Hospice, 141 Bodman Place, Red Bank 07701 would be ap­preciated.

THEODORE EDWARD FERRO, 59, of Aberdeen, died July 2 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He was born in Newark and raised in Englishtown. He moved to Aberdeen two years ago. Mr. Ferro was employeed at ShopRite of Aberdeen. Prior to that he was employeed at Washington Forge Company, Englishtown, and Waltrich Plastics, Manalapan. Surviving are a brother and a sister-in-law, Edward and Annie Ferro, Freehold; a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Les Floyd, Sutton, W.Va.; an aunt, Marie Hallbauer and her husband, Robert, Edison; an uncle, Matthew Trivett, and his wife, Antoinette, Toms River; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the family would be appreciated.

EDWARD C. LIS, 74, of Freehold Township, died June 30 CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mr. Lis was born in Newark and had lived in the Avenel section of Woodbridge before moving to Freehold Township 38 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Lis was a chemical engineer for ABB/Lummus, Bloomfield, before his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Freehold, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Lis was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Artisan Lodge No. 47, Philadelphia. A son, Arthur Lis, died in 1981. Interment was at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Memorial donations to the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad, 18 Spring Street, Freehold 07728 would be appreciated.
