BAILEY, 98, of Freehold Township died Oct. 7 at home. Born in Matawan, she had lived there and in Holmdel before moving to Freehold Township 32 years ago. Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker. She was a member and former deaconess of Ardena Baptist Church, Howell, where she was also a member of the prayer chain. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sirius Chapter 123, Matawan, for 53 years. Mrs. Bailey was predeceased by her husband, Myron, who died in 1978. She is survived by a son, Carl G. Stiles of Florida; two daughters, Jacqueline E. Schanck of Martinez, Ga., and Mary Faith Reed of Freehold Township; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Ardena Baptist Church with the Rev. Harvey Kelley officiating, followed by interment at Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel. WILLIAM HARRISON BALLARD, 65, of Freehold died Oct. 11 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Caraway, Ark., he had lived in Freehold for the past 29 years. He was a 1st class petty officer in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, then was an ordnance mechanic at Naval Weapons Station Earle, Colts Neck, for 17 years, retiring eight years ago. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kay Van Dyke Ballard; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann of Japan, and Laura Lynn of Freehold; and two sisters, Verdean Marlette and Charlene Barnfield, both of Granite City, Ill. FAIRMAN, 82, of Colts Neck died Oct. 12 at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in Philadelphia, she had lived there before moving to Erie, Pa., where she lived for 25 years. She lived in Howell before settling in Colts Neck. She was a volunteer at Hammet Medical Center, Pa. She was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Brennan, who died in 1968; and her second husband, Alfred Fairman, in 1992. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marie H. and Tom Officer of Colts Neck; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Leo’s Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for the Victims’ Families of the World Trade Center. JOHN W. "BUDDIE" JOHNSON, 82, of Freehold died Oct. 3 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Millville, Ga., he had lived in Freehold for more than 60 years. He was employed by Holmdel Valley Farm, Holmdel, for many years before his retirement in 1986. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1944 to 1946. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold. He is survived by two daughters, Betty A. Clark of Freehold, and Brenda Jones of Lakewood; a son, Thomas Banks of Hayward, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson of Wrens, Ga.; a sister, Margaret Morris of Wrens; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Edward Blacknall, and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Blacknall, all of Freehold; and Helen Reese of Asbury Park; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and relatives. Funeral services were held at Bethel A.M.E. Church, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. ELEANOR A. LEONARD, 86, of Farmingdale died Oct. 11 at home. She is survived by her brother, Olaf Olsen of Farmingdale; and several nieces and nephews. BRIGID McLAVISH, 55, of Holmdel died Oct. 6 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she moved to Holmdel in 1958. She was a receptionist for Commonwealth Mortgage, Freehold, the past three years. She was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. She was very active in the Great Dane Dog Club of America. She was predeceased by her parents, Warren DePhillips and Antoinette Desarno McLavish. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Charles McLavish of Holmdel; two sons, Kevin McLavish of Holmdel, and Dominick McLavish of Howell; her daughter, Brigid Wiggins of Jackson; her sister, Carmela Brendel of Virginia; and two grandchildren. Box 2041, Toms River, NJ 08754-9926. LAMAR AXEL NELSON, 80, of Freehold died Oct. 1 at Applegarth Care Center, Monroe. Born in Salt Lake City, he had lived in Morristown before moving to Freehold 25 years ago. He operated New Jersey Floor Care, Freehold, before his retirement. He was also a salesman for Electrolux Vacuum. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine Service during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Irene, who died in 1992. He is survived by three sons, Craig of Hightstown, Danny Boy of Randolph and Bruce of Monmouth Beach; a daughter, Cindy Moore of Manalapan; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. ANTHONY DERON "TONY" PRINCE, 19, of Asbury Park died Oct. 2 at home. Born in Freehold Township, he had lived in Asbury Park for several years. He attended Asbury Park High School. He is survived by his father, Ronald Williams of Neptune; his mother, Rose Prince Williams of Asbury Park; two brothers, Keith Prince of Freehold, and Michael Brier of Neptune; two sisters, Keasha Prince of Freehold, and Theresa Brier of Neptune; his grandmothers, both of Asbury Park; a nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were held at New Hope Baptist Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. EDWARD "TEDDY" G. SAVARINO, 33, of Freehold died Oct. 6 at home. He was born in Schenectady, N.Y. He owned and operated a truck, driving for Wheaton Van Lines of Dayton for the past 10 years. He is survived by his former wife, Donna Savarino of Freehold; his parents, Edward S. and Jacqueline DeRossi Savarino of Ocala, Fla.; a son, Jake A., and a daughter, Nicolette E., both of Freehold; three brothers, John of Freehold, Stephen of New York and Michael of Hoboken; and four nieces. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Colts Neck. DOROTHY H. SVENDSEN, 72, of Freehold Township died Oct. 10 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in New York and Orlando, Fla., before moving to Freehold Township in 1995. She was employed by Texaco Oil Co., N.Y., for 39 years before retiring in 1984. She was a member and past president of the CentraState Medical Center Auxiliary, Silvermead Chapter, Freehold Township. She was predeceased by her husband, Alf, in 1991. She is survived by an aunt, Edna Sargeant of Jericho, N.Y., a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sam and Ruth Manfredi of Staten Island, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. |
