FRANK LESTUCK, 85, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died July 30 at home. His first wife, Helen Lachko Lestuck, died in 1977, and a son, Joseph, died in 1975. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Freer Lestuck; a stepson, Joseph Guzzi of Parlin; a son, Frank Lestuck of Freehold; two daughters, Dolly Bloomfield of Helmetta and Helen Rosado of South Amboy; a brother, George Lestuck of Hopelawn; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy, with services planned at Messiah Lutheran Church, Parlin. Interment was at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Hopelawn.

ARTHUR ALEXANDER, 72, of Freehold Township died July 30 at Vencor Hospital, Philadelphia. Born in Mineola, Long Island, N.Y., he came to New Jersey as a boy of 14 and resided in the Clarksburg section of Millstone, Smithburg and surrounding areas before settling in Freehold Township in 1950. He attended the Clarksburg School and worked for Englishtown Cutlery, Englishtown, and the Karagheusian Rug Mill, Freehold, before joining the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Thomas. After his service in the Navy, Mr. Alexander was employed at Marlboro State Hospital, Marlboro, and Engineered Precision Casting, Middletown, for a brief time before his employment at Earle Naval Weapons Station, Colts Neck, retiring after 21 years of service. After his retirement from Earle, he worked for the Monmouth Park Racetrack, Oceanport, and Freehold Raceway, Freehold Township, retiring in 1990. Mr. Alexander was a member and leader of the Indian Guides and Boy Scouts of America, serving as assistant Scoutmaster to Troop 70, Smithburg; assistant Scoutmaster and Explorer adviser to Troop 18; and Explorer advisor to Troop 155, Freehold. He was a life member and captain with the Monmouth County Fire and Emergency Police, serving in various capacities since 1966; and a life member of Freehold Township Independent Fire Company No. 1 since 1967. Mr. Alexander was a member of the NAD Earle Conservation Club; a volunteer with the Battleground Arts Center; a member of the First United Methodist Church of Freehold; and attended Temple Shaari Emeth, Manalapan. He was predeceased by his parents, Bessie Thall Alexander and Benjamin Alexander; a daughter, Lillian Helen; and a granddaughter, Melissa Ann. Surviving are his longtime companion, Fran Marshall; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Alice Alexander, Scott and Brigida Alexander, and Brian and Bonnie Alexander, all of Jackson; four stepchildren, Len Marshall, Helene and Kevin Lonergan, and Barbara Price; a sister, Caroline Smith of Bainbridge, N.Y.; two granddaughters; 10 step-grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Lillian Pettit. Funeral services were held at the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold. Memorial donations may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Browns Mills 08015; to Freehold Independent Fire Company No. 1, Stillwells Corner Road, Freehold 07728; or to Open Door of Freehold, Throckmorton Street, Freehold 07728.

BETTIE BRAMLETT BURKHOLDER, 80, of Jackson died Aug. 2 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She was born in Akron, Ohio, and resided there for most of her life, moving to Bradenton, Fla., in 1989 and then to Jackson in 1997. Mrs. Burkholder was a member of the Freehold Christian Women’s Club and a member of the First Baptist Church, both of Freehold. In Akron, Ohio, she was a charter member of the Women’s Board of St. Thomas Hospital Medical Center; and a member of the Stan Hywet Foundation, where she was a former member of the Women’s Auxiliary. In Florida, she was a member of the Ringling School of Art and Design Library Association, Sarasota; and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as chairperson for a number of charity events. Mrs. Burkholder was predeceased by her husband, George W., a former insurance executive who died in 1994. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey A. and Susan of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristie E. and Bruce Marks of Jackson; a granddaughter; and two step-grandchildren. Memorial services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, with the Rev. William Frederickson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Freehold, officiating.

WILLIAM G. CASTELLANO JR., 64, of Millstone Township died July 29 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in Jersey City and had resided in Wall Township before moving to Millstone 20 years ago. A graduate of Kean College, Union, Mr. Castellano was a teacher in the Freehold Regional High School District for 35 years, retiring in 1993. His most recent teaching position was at Marlboro High School. He was a member of the National Education Association; the New Jersey Education Association; the Monmouth County Education Association; and the Freehold Regional High School Education Association, where he was a former president. Mr. Castellano was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Surviving are his wife, M. Lynne Yates Castellano; three sons, William G. III of Atlantic Highlands, Richard of Birmingham, Ala., and Scott, at home; a daughter, Jill, at home; his mother, Margaret Flora Castellano of Park Ridge; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold.

SELMA EDELMAN, 89, of Lakewood died Aug. 2 at the Central Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged, Somerset. She was born in Tulchin, Russia, and had resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Lakewood in 1985. Mrs. Edelman was a member of Congregation Sons of Israel and the Pioneer Women, both of Lakewood. She was predeceased by her husband, Julius E., who died in 1985. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Yetta and Alvin Mintz, and Fran and Frank Charlop, all of Freehold, and Rochelle and Martin Carus of Howell; a sister, Celia Steinman of Brooklyn; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge.

JAMES J. GREGORY, 63, of Manalapan died July 29 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune Township. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he had been a resident of the Morganville section of Marlboro for the past 30 years. Mr. Gregory served in the U.S. Marine Corps before opening his own consulting firm, James J. Gregory Associates, Morganville, 16 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge; and a member of the Brunswick Racquet Club, East Brunswick. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Patricia M. Jescavage Gregory; two sons, Brian of Old Bridge, and Darin of Middletown; and his mother, Agnes Gregory of Wilkes-Barre. A memorial Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Aug. 12 at St. Ambrose Church. The Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the National Wildlife Federation, 8925 Leesburg Pike, Vienna, VA 22184-0002.

LOLA HAYNES, 88, of Freehold died July 29 at her daughter’s home in Clinton, Md. She was born in Vernon, Fla., and had been a resident of Freehold for the past 60 years. Mrs. Haynes was a homemaker. She was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold. She was predeceased by her husband, William F., who died in 1987. Surviving are four sons, Wade of Potomac, Md., Robert of Asbury Park, Joseph of Freehold, and William F. Jr. of Dover; four daughters-in-law; four daughters, Ellen Goode of Tinton Falls, Ida Wright of Freehold, Mary Jackson of New Brunswick, and Pequoia Evans of Clinton, Md.; two sons-in-law; two brothers, Carlie B. Pompey of Vernon, Fla., and Samuel Pompey of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Sallie Godbolt of Long Branch and Nellie Green of Vernon, Fla.; three sisters-in-law; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, followed by interment in Vernon, Fla. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
