Marlboro Middle School girls are county champs With a 2-1 win over the Eisenhower School in Freehold Township, the Marlboro Middle School’s eighth-grade girls’ soccer team won the Monmouth County Intermediate School Soccer League National Conference playoff championship. That gave the Marlboro girls a sweep of the MCISSL championships during the fall. They were the National Conference A Division champions during the regular season. Laura Acquazzino and Jackie Dicker were the goal-scorers for Marlboro in the playoff title game with Eisenhower. The Marlboro girls, coached by Jim Carrigan, finished the season with an overall 10-3 record. The Marlboro Middle School’s eighth-grade team consisted of tri-captains Theresa Ferraina, Kelley Geffen and Liz Peterson, and team members Jackie Dicker, Kristen Asciolla, Laura Backer, Erika Leon, Jenn Vill, Lauren Mokes, Kat Gooch, Ashley Blatt, Kristina Quagliariello, Samantha Diamond, Ali Kronenfeld, Nicole Kramer, Laura Acquazzino, Rebecca Schwartz, Brittany Komack, Kristina Strubbe, Diane Cerquiera and Michelle Berson. Striker Ferraina led Marlboro in scoring. Midfielders Geffen and Diamond controlled the flow of the game with their playmaking, and Peterson, Gooch and Leon sparked an outstanding defense. Ferraina and Peterson were MCISSL All-Stars. Wall won the Boys’ National Conference playoff title, beating Thompson, 3-0, in the final. |
