Resident hopes Marlboro’s new mayor will appoint good people Since the election here in Marlboro is over, I have observed hopefully the end to politics as usual. On the Wednesday after the election, I first observed sullen faces in the zoning board meeting asking the board clerk, "So when is my term up?" If a member of a board was doing a good job, why would they ask such a thing? Do they think that the new mayor is one that cleans a house that is not dirty? The Planning Board makes a foolish decision with regard to allowing a Home Depot in the old Kmart on Route 9. Discussions ad infinitum about traffic lights and over-height sensors to preclude truck deliveries from the Union Hill Road entrances to the plaza. What has changed since Kmart left in regard to truck deliveries? The same size trucks will still deliver to this building as before and to the other business in the plaza. So a vote to disapprove was cast and Mr. Collins gets to practice his lawyering trade for no really good reason. The Township Council amazingly discovers a flaw in the municipal code about interim appointments made by the mayor. I was told by (the township attorney) that it was offered by other council members to be drawn up; our council president stated this inconsistency was found by the township attorney. And lastly, our current mayor forbids township employees from having any contact with the mayor-elect without directing it through his office. I see a last-ditch effort to throw as many road blocks out in front of Mayor-elect Kleinberg before he takes office. I believe that if it is not broke, he will not fix it. He will not play politics with his town and the people that believed in him by casting their vote. We all are hoping he will stop the corruption that is buried in this town by the select few that are always whispering in the back of the Town Hall meetings. As our residents look forward to a new year, we hope that the mayor’s new appointments are people of character, integrity and knowledge, not people looking for the power or greed that sometimes comes with positions of responsibility.
