Citizens group stands ready to help Freehold officials

I read the article on PEOPLE (Pressing Our Elected Officials to Protect Our Living Environment) in the Oct. 29 News Transcript with deep concern. The steering committee established this group to "get our town back" in a positive manner. Our concerns are, as was stated, overcrowding of the town and our schools, increased taxes, etc.

My "personal" issues include the fact that I feel that I am being "taken advantage of." The illegal immigrants are obtaining food stamps, earning wages and are not paying taxes.

Our group has no problem with individuals coming to this country legally, establishing themselves as citizens and paying their fair share. Freedom is not free. We are the individuals sending our sons and daughters off to war so that we can enjoy the freedoms of the United States.

Illegal immigrants are not losing sleep with worry, wondering if their 19-year-old son or daughter is coming home from Iraq. These are the issues that we are concerned with. The illegal immigrants have to understand where we are coming from.

Look at what they have made the Spring Street apartments look like. Look at Post and Coach. Post and Coach used to be an upscale apartment complex. There is no reasonably priced housing for our young Americans to live in. We wonder why our 25-year-old children still live at home.

Your journalist put a negative slant on what PEOPLE is trying to accomplish.

Last week I spoke to a borough employee and advised that our group wants to "partner" with the council and approach the issues in a positive light. We have to work as a team. The Borough Council has done some good things, but we need more. They need help and we are willing to assist.
