Joseph M. Soman

Mr. Soman of Howell died Aug. 11. He was born in Beacon, N.Y. He attended Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y., before beginning a career in information management at IBM, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1987. After his retirement, he founded a consulting business, which he managed until his death. Mr. Soman was predeceased by his wife, Sheila Knox Whalen, in 2001. Surviving are eight children, Jeffrey of Wilmette, Ill., Laurie of Berkeley, Calif., Nancy of Voorhees, Lisa of East Brunswick, Kathryn of Manhattan, N.Y., Page of Howell, Sarah of San Francisco, and Victoria of Howell; a brother, Dewey of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; several cousins; and eight grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Veronica’s Roman Catholic Church, Route 9, Howell. Memorial donations may be made to The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, 195 Little Albany St., New Brunswick 08901. The C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Baird Craig

Mrs. Craig, 92, of Holmdel died Sept. 16 at CareOne at Holmdel. Born in Freehold, she resided in Manalapan, and Easton, Md., prior to moving to Holmdel. She taught in Manalapan schools. She was a member of Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent; Maryland Presbyterian Church, Easton, where she served as an elder; and the Community Church of Rossmoor, Monroe. She was predeceased by her husband, Tunis P. Craig in 1976; her brother, William Denise Baird; and her sister, Carolyn Lott. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Peter and Linda Craig of Cooperstown, N.Y.; her daughter and son-in-law, Millicent and Robert Gianettino of Colts Neck; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at Old Tennent Presbyterian Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Old Tennent Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 6, Tennent 07763.

James Warren Kirby

Mr. Kirby, 81, of Freehold died Aug. 30 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Freehold, he was a lifelong resident. In 1942, Mr. Kirby served as a private first class in the U.S. Army medical corps during World War II. A parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Freehold, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1672, Freehold, where he was a fourth degree knight. He also served more than 25 years as a court officer for the county of Monmouth assigned to the juvenile division. Mr. Kirby was the owner of the Bloomfield Inn in Englishtown from 1962-1965, as well as the owner and operator of Kirby Cleaners in Freehold. He is survived by his wife, Dora Zerilli Kirby; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Leonard Sullivan of Manasquan; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was held at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Salvatore A. Mazzucco

Mr. Mazzucco, 77, of Hazlet died Sept. 19 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he resided there until relocating to Hazlet 45 years ago. Mr. Mazzucco was the owner and operator of Fair Haven Corner Café, Fair Haven, from 1981-86. Prior to that, he owned and operated the Ice Cream Palace, Aberdeen, and was a retail manager for New Jersey district sales for Gulf Oil Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. His memberships included the Hazlet Township Recreation Committee, for which he served as treasurer; Hazlet Youth Athletic League; and the Brush and Palette Art Guild. He was also a patient advocate at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Mr. Mazzucco was predeceased by a brother, John Mazzucco. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phoebe Isaacson Mazzucco; four sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Jacqueline Mazzucco of Colts Neck, Steven and Joyceann Mazzucco of Pitman, David and Karen Mazzucco of Westfield, and Richard and Denise Mazzucco of Jupiter, Fla.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara and Rod Harris of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Christine Mazzucco of Hamden, Conn.; a sister, Marion Mertz of Copake, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sept. 25 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Sept. 26 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church. Entombment will be at Holmdel Mausoleum. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

Michael B Wilenta

Mr. Wilenta, 76, died Sept. 14 at home. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Secau­cus before moving to Marlboro in 1997. He was a former communicant of Immaculate Concep­tion Roman Catholic Church in Secaucus for 42 years, and a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church in Marlboro. A World War II Navy veteran, he was self-employed. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Wilenta of Edgewood, N.M., Peter Wilenta of Wyckoff, and Paul and Leah Wilenta of Toms River; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kath­leen and William Farrell of Rumson, Eileen and Patrick Kelly of Manalapan, Noreen and Vincent Ricciardi of Colts Neck, and Michele and Eugene Chiarelli of Carbondale, Colo.; a sister, Bernadette Zajac of Florida; and 13 grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, followed by entombment at Marl­boro Memorial Mausoleum, Marlboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville 07834-1365; or Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1034 Salem Road, Union 07083-7058.

Evelyn Wilson

Mrs. Wilson, of Freehold Township, died March 29 at Avante at Red Bank Care Center, Red Bank. Born in Linden, she lived in Matawan before moving to Freehold 37 years ago. She is survived by her husband, Charles, of Freehold Township; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Kelly Wilson of New Milford, Conn.; two sisters, Dorothy Hultfeldt of Springhill, Fla., and Mary Ann Taylor of New Jersey. Entombment was at Atlantic View Cemetery, Brielle.
