Board getting word out The Freehold Township Board of Education is providing residents with a year’s notice in regard to a redistricting plan that will take effect in September 2004. In an effort to bring the information to parents, a Student Attendance Area Advisory Committee (SAAAC) will be making a public presentation at the board’s Sept. 23 and Oct. 28 meetings in the Barkalow Middle School, Stillwells Corner Road, at 8 p.m. The purpose of the presentations will be to share information about redistricting with the community and to solicit input from the public. Redistricting is never an easy task for a school board to undertake because it involves breaking ties that pupils and parents have formed in a particular school. In Freehold Township’s case, the planned redistricting is necessitated by the construction of a new elementary school and the need to even out the enrollment in all of the district’s elementary schools. The presentations scheduled by the SAAAC are an opportunity for residents to learn what the board has in mind for the future. |
