Community welcomes event’s return

Organizers are hoping for hot, sunny weather on Saturday when Olde Freehold Day — a tradition in years gone by — makes its return after an absence of many years to the shores of Lake Topanemus, Freehold Township.

The Lake Topanemus Com-mission, a joint effort between Freehold Borough and Freehold Township, has been working diligently for years to restore the lake and its surrounding areas to pristine condition. The lake is owned by Freehold Borough, but lies on Pond Road in Freehold Township.

Over the past few months a committee in Freehold Borough has been working to plan a day that will be fun for families. Entertainment, rides, boating and food will be on tap Saturday afternoon at the lake.

The festivities will kick off at 10 a.m. with a mini-triathlon, to be followed from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. by all of the other Olde Freehold Day activities.

With the Monmouth County Fair having just completed a successful run at the East Freehold Showgrounds, is the community ready for another celebration?

The answer should most definitely be "yes."

Olde Freehold Day will serve as a fund-raiser for the local service organizations that will serve the food, park the cars, sell the beer and rent the boats. In addition to providing a day of entertainment, it will be a boost to the organizations that serve us every day.

It’s a day not to be missed.
