Borough residents facing charges FREEHOLD — A pair of borough residents were reportedly assaulted in two recent separate incidents. Though he claimed to have been the victim of an assault, Carlos Aguilar, 23, of Avenue A, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on July 6 at 6:15 p.m. According to police Capt. Michael DiAiso, officers saw Aguilar walking down Avenue A carrying a knife. DiAiso said it appeared that Aguilar had been assaulted by several people. He said Aguilar told the officers he had been assaulted by a group of eight to 10 black male juveniles who took $80 from him. DiAiso said Aguilar told the officers he was out looking for the juveniles who attacked him and that he was carrying the knife in order to protect himself. The captain said Aguilar had complained of pain in his arm and was later taken to CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, where he was treated. The robbery that Aguilar reported to the officers remains under investigation. In an unrelated incident, a South Street man was assaulted and robbed of a gold necklace at 9:30 p.m. July 4 while he was visiting a friend on Elm Street. According to DiAiso, the victim told the officers he was walking along the street when the incident happened. An investigation resulted in the arrest of Luis Diaz, 49, of South Street, who was charged with robbery. Charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and aggravated assault were lodged against Roberto Diaz, 24, of South Street. Roberto Diaz remains at large, according to police. |
