The Jersey Nightmare 12U girls softball team was awarded a bid to compete in the Hall of Fame Tournament in Oklahoma City, Ok. this week. Only 16 teams from 16 different regions across the country were selected to play in this tournament. The Nightmare will represent the New Jersey and New York Region.

Over the last two-and-a-half years, the Nightmare, with a roster of local players, has gone 143-24 winning 14 tournaments and finishing second six times.

The Nightmare warmed up for the Hall of Fame tourney by winning the Witches Wild Weekend 14U Tournament in Bordentown. The girls out-scored their opponents 31-1. Caitlyn Hennessy, Juliana Rivera, Brittany Carosia and Amanda Stacevicz were the pitching starts. Together, they held opponents to just three hits. Nicole Callahan, who batted .800, Rivera, who was at .714 and the leading RBI producer, and Kristen Kaelin, whose hit at a .500 clip, were the leading hitters for the Nightmare in Bordentown.

The Nightmare are: Alicia Buckley (third base), Nicole Callahan (shortstop/first base), Brittany Carosia (pitcher/outfield), Dawn Curry, (outfield), Caitlyn Hennessy (pitcher/outfield), Kristen Kaelin (catcher), Lisa Lebek (second base/outfield), Katie Margiotta (outfield), Ashley Minch (second base), Juliana Rivera (pitcher/outfield) and Amanda Stacevicz (pitcher/shortstop).

Freehold Township Recreation is offering the following summer camps: Patriot Pride Wrestling Camp, July 21-25, 9 a.m.-noon, for ages 7-14, in the Freehold Township gymnasium, instructed by Benny Litowski, the high school’s wrestling coach. Fees are $65 for residents and $90 for non-residents; Fundamentals Soccer Camp, July 14-18 at Michael J. Tighe Park, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., for ages 7-14, instructed by Sarah Lacoste, former FT coach and current St. John Vianney coach Fees are $130 for residents and $155 nonresidents; Patriot Softball Camp, July 21-25 at Michael J. Tighe Park, 5-8 p.m., for ages 10-17, instructed by Jesse Renna, Freehold Township’s boys’ varsity coach. Fees are $65 for residents and $90 nonresidents; Cheerleading Camp, July 21-25, 6-8:30 p.m., for ages 7-14, at Michael J. Tighe Park, instructed by Heather Petrou, Freehold Pop Warner Cheer Coordinator. Fees are $65 for residents and $90 nonresidents; and Softball Camp, July 7-11, 4-7 p.m., at Michael Tighe Park, for ages 3-12, instructed by John DeVincenzo, Freehold Township varsity softball coach Fees are $60 for residents and $85 for nonresidents.

The Manalapan Red Storm (fall 2003/spring 2004) U-12 boys team is looking for a couple of dedicated players for the upcoming seasons. Boys born Aug. 1, 1991, or after are eligible. There are no residency requirements to play for the Red Storm, who are a high level Premier team trained by a high school coach. The Hazlet Bombers, a U10 boys soccer team (U-11 in the fall), are looking to add players to their existing roster. Rick Garretson, the head coach of the Manalapan boys’ basketball team, and John Natoli, assistant boys’ basketball coach, are running a Boys and Girls Basketball Clinic at Manalapan High School from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., June 24-28. ShootingStar Fastpitch Softball, LLC., will be conducting a Summer Softball Camp in Ocean Township, July 14-17 (rain date July 8). The camp is for girls ages 8-18 and will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. daily. The camp is for players at all positions, including pitching and catching. Hitting, bunting, base-running, the basic fundamentals and finer points of the game will be taught. Bob DiBernardo, one of the most successful high school coaches in New Jersey, is the camp director and owner of ShootingStar Fastpitch Softball. His teams have won 11 league titles, three country crowns, five state sectional titles and one state title (the 1991 Ramsey team that was 32-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state).

The following are the results of for gymnasts from the Wilton Academy in Howell at the USA Gymnastics Level 4 New Jersey State Championships, held on May 17 and 18 at Henderson’s Gymnastics in Edison.

In the 6-7-year-old age group, Marisa Asta scored 9.45 on the vault, 8.55 on the bars, 9.15 (11th) on the beam, 9.4 (7th) on the floor, and 36.55 (15th) in the all-.around. Casie Ann Smith scored 9.325 on the vault, 8.15 on the bars, 9.05 (15th) on the beam, 9.1 on the floor, and 35.62 in the all-around.

In the 8-year-old age group, Stephanie Belli scored 9.45 (12th) on the vault, 8.5 on the bars, 8.9 (15th) on the beam, 8.825 on the floor, and 35.67 in the all-around.

In the 9-year-old age group, Arianna Bellafiore scored 9.6 (8th) on the vault, 9.075 (5th) on the bars, 7.7 on the beam, 9.075 (10th) on the floor and 35.45 in the all-around.

In the 10-year-old age group, Haley Ostrander scored 9.55 (7th) on the vault, 8.9 (15th) on the bars, 8.95 on the beam, 8.85 on the floor and 36.25 in the all-around.

On Saturday, May 10, the girls competed at Motion Gymnastics in Pennington. In Level 4 (ages 6-8), Marisa Asta scored 9.2 (3rd) on the vault, 8.6 (4th) on the bars, 9.225 (3rd) on the beam, 9.375 (2nd) on the floor and 36.40 (3rd) in the all-around. Casie Ann Smith scored 9.1 (5th) on the vault, 9.25 (2nd) on the bars, 8.92 (4th) on the beam, 8.9 (5th) on the floor and 36.17 (4th) in the all-around. Stephanie Belli scored 9.15 (4th) on the vault, 8.375 (5th) on the bars, 9.35 (2nd) on the beam, 8.95 (4th) on the floor and 35.82 (5th) in the all-around.

In Level 4 (ages 9-11), Arianna Bellafiore scored 9.4 (1st) on the vault, 9.25 (1st) on the bars, 9.35 (1st) on the beam, 9.150 (1st) on the floor and 37.15 (1st) in the all-around.
