College to offer
accelerated
nursing program

LAKEWOOD — A new era of nursing education began in November with the stroke of a pen on the campus of Georgian Court College.

Georgian Court College President Rosemary E. Jeffries and Seton Hall University President Monsignor Robert Sheeran, along with four healthcare partners — John Lloyd, CEO, Meridian Health Care System, Wall; Joanne Carrocino, executive director Kimball Medical Center, St. Barnabas Health Care System, Lakewood; John Gribbin, president and CEO CentraState Healthcare System, Freehold Township; and Maureen Schneider, vice president, Patient Care Services, Community Medical Center, Toms River — began a unique partnership to offer an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, according to a press release.

This program was instituted in response to the growing nursing shortage.

"These partners will be improving patient care, helping people in the community obtain this much-needed resource, well-qualified nurses," said Jeffries.

The program is expected to start in May with a cohort of between 20 and 30 students. All six partners echoed Sheeran’s investment in the program: "It’s about our students and about the people who will be touched by them. We’ll watch it and nurture it very carefully."
