Mediation to continue on FRHSD voting points

A mediation session to discuss the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education’s voting system has been continued to Dec. 16 following an initial mediation session on Monday.

The continuation means that a hearing initially scheduled for Dec. 5 before U.S. District Court Judge Garrett E. Brown, sitting in Trenton, will not be held. That hearing has been rescheduled for Dec. 19, according to Stephanie Luftglass, Marl-borough’s director of public information.

The mediation efforts involve representatives of all eight FRHSD sending towns and center on a lawsuit filed by the township of Marlboro that seeks to change the board’s weighted voting system in order to reflect changes in population in the eight FRHSD towns between 1990 and 2000.

An injunction issued by Brown on Nov. 18 that restrains the school board from voting on any issue of substance remains in effect, Luftglass said.
