FRHSD orientation
delayed until January

Orientation events for current eighth-graders who will be attending high school in the Freehold Regional High School District beginning in September 2003 will be held in January.

FRHSD administrators have plans to redistrict some students beginning in September 2003, but an injunction placed on the district by a federal judge has temporarily halted any action related to the redistricting plan from being taken.

The action currently under review in U.S. District Court, Trenton, involves a lawsuit filed by the township of Marlboro relating to the voting system that was in place when the FRHSD Board of Education approved the redistricting plan several months ago.

Freehold Twp. to assess

special ed. programs

This year the Freehold Township School District is undergoing self-assessment for the New Jersey Department of Education’s Office of Special Education programs.

During this process, the district will be examining its special education policies, procedures, programs and services, and student outcomes in order to identify program effectiveness and compliance with state and federal mandates.

In this way, the district will be able to document its strengths, promising practices and initiatives, and areas of weakness, which will be addressed in an improvement plan.

In order to ensure that parents of special needs students have the opportunity to share their perspectives on these issues, Freehold Township will hold a public meeting for parents Dec. 11 from 7-9 p.m. in the West Freehold School conference room. Six focus questions will be presented, and parents will have the opportunity to respond to each one. Each family of a student receiving special education will be sent further information about the meeting.

To register or for more information, call (732) 866-6881.

St. Rose hand bell

choirs to perform Dec. 8

The choirs of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold, will present their seventh annual Christmas concert Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. in the church, McLean Street. All are invited.

This year’s program will highlight traditional carols. The junior and adult hand bell choirs will lend their interpretations to many familiar carols, and the children’s choir will also perform.

The finale will be performed by the 40-voice Festival Choir, accompanied by organ and percussion. The choirs are under the direction of Janos Major, the church’s musical director.

There is no charge for admission, although a free-will donation will be accepted to help defray production costs.
