Christian Women’s Club
to host Christmas party

The Freehold Christian Women’s Club will host its annual Christmas party from 10-11:30 a.m. Dec. 11 at the Battleground Country Club, Tennent section of Manalapan. All women are welcome to attend.

The event includes brunch and a program by guest speaker Lynn Holbrook, who will talk about the challenges and joys of life on a Connecticut farm. All guests are invited to bring a special or favorite ornament for an "Ornament Show and Tell."

Local band performs

at famed Stone Pony

Sheer Karma, an eight-piece contemporary band made up of 13- to 17-year-old boys and girls from Monmouth and Ocean counties, performed at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park Nov. 17.

The group performed as part of "Young Stars of Tomorrow," presented by Freehold Music Contemporary Studios. The band performs contemporary hits such as Sheryl Crow’s "Soakin’ Up the Sun" and 10,000 Maniacs’ "Because the Night," along with such classics as Elvis Presley’s "Burning Love."

The members of Sheer Karma are: Aaron DesLonde and Christopher Dittmeier, juniors at Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft; Steve Haemmerle, a junior at New Egypt High School; Kim Maffei, a freshman at Allentown High School; Scott Dittmeier and Matt Lo, eighth-graders at Manalapan-Englishtown Middle School; and Allie Feibus and Matt Lauritsen, eighth-graders at Millstone Middle School. The band director is Sal Catapano.

Howell Lanes to host

Christmas party Dec. 22

Professional bowler Parker Bohn III will join Santa and Mrs. Claus to host a Christmas party for children of all ages. All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Tournament of Champions, an organization that provides athletic events for youngsters who are learning disabled and physically handicapped.

The Christmas party will be held Dec. 22, 1-4 p.m., at Howell Lanes, Route 9. The cost is $25 per child and will include a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus; a gift from Santa; hot dog, chips and soda; unlimited bowling; live entertainment; games and prizes; and a demonstration of trick shots by Bohn. Parents are welcome to leave their child or stay and enjoy the festivities. Registration is required; call (732) 780-3509.

University Women

collecting used books

Used books are again being collected by the Freehold Area Branch of the American Association of University Women for its annual book sale. Fiction and nonfiction, children’s and adults’ books, will be accepted, but only very recent textbooks are accepted. To make arrangements to donate, call Joan Odud at (732) 431-2297.
