A good rocker just keeps on going

Four decades is a long time to rock ’n’ roll, but that’s just about how long George Theiss of Freehold Township has been playing in front of people.

One of Freehold’s original rockers, Theiss traces his musical roots back to bands like the Five Diamonds, the Sierras, the Cas-tiles, the Rusty Chain, Doo-Da and Cahoots.

That was before 1979, when he formed the George Theiss Band. His sound is familiar to anyone who has spent time in clubs along the Jersey Shore.

Infrequent performances in recent years have left Theiss’ fans wondering when they’d see him again. The answer is Saturday night at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. We’re glad he’s back and hope he sticks around on the local scene for years to come.
