Recent uproar seems to have led to less noise from Raceway Park

I feel that I need to reply to both the Aug. 14 News Transcript cover story regar-ding Raceway Park, and the racer Marty Magerowski, who needs a little enlightening regarding how and why people have purchased their homes in Manalapan.

First of all, to the owners and operators of Raceway Park, the Napps. When we moved to Manalapan in 1987 the permitted racing hours were Wednesday and Friday until 10 p.m. and Sunday until 6 p.m., with some special events permitted on Satur-days.

We verified this several times before moving to our home closer to the raceway in 1995. It was our informed choice based upon our investigation to move closer and live with the noise that they generate. We even sat in our empty lot on racing days before committing. We knew what we were getting into.

However, it appears that several years ago Old Bridge changed some of the rules and restrictions, and now we hear the raceway well past 10 p.m. and on Satur-days. I don’t know how the Napps can possibly say they are living within the court order. I know that I have heard racing very near 11 p.m. on more than one night.

In addition, every so many years when this issue arises, Raceway Park suddenly becomes quieter. It does not surprise me in the least that the park was not that noisy the day the interview took place.

The raceway has been quieter on the whole since this issue was raised and Manalapan received an additional order. For a few days I thought they weren’t racing at all.

After the uproar subsides the noise level increases. Perhaps the reporter would consider making an unannounced visit sometime in the future to see what it’s really like because the day he was there it was not business as usual.

To Mr. Magerowski, please, give me a break. We should all move when the raceway isn’t living up to it’s part of the bargain or court order?

Our home sales/purchase contracts must indicate that we are aware of the raceway noise. We were informed. What we didn’t expect was the raceway to start racing more frequently and later, and the cars making more noise. Our windows don’t rattle, we live a little too far away for that.

We empathize with the people that are living in Arnie Feldman’s and Mark Levy’s developments which are closer to the raceway. It must be horrendous living there. We also thank them for taking on this issue.

So, we’ve had about two weeks of a considerably kinder, gentler Raceway Park. Let’s see how long it lasts this time.
