AGNES V. CLINTON, 88, of Hazlet died June 22 at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in Jersey City, she lived in Old Bridge and Jersey City prior to moving to Hazlet several years ago. She was a purchasing agent at St. Francis Community Health Center, Jersey City, for 15 years, retiring in 1984. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, James J. Clinton in 1989; and her sister, Jennie Arzol this year. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, John and Margaret Clinton of Freehold, and James J. Clinton Jr. of Union Beach; her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Rita Zimmerman of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy will be offered June 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

NICHOLAS NIKITIN, 54, of Morris County died June 14 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Denville. Born in Austria, he had lived in Freehold before moving to Parsippany 25 years ago. He was a project manager for Garden Homes Inc., Short Hills, for the past 30 years. He was predeceased by a brother, Peter, who died in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Tamyra; four sons, Anthony of Kearny, Nicholas Jr. of Jackson, and Steven and Nicola, both of Parsippany; a daughter, Nicole McCarthy of Port St. John, Fla.; his mother, Maria Nikitin of Howell; two brothers, Max of Neptune and Alex of Lakewood; four sisters, Helen Roe of Ocala, Fla., Olga Smith of Jackson, and Carol Sullivan and Mary McBeth, both of Howell; and one granddaughter. Interment took place at Farmingdale Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale.

RHODA MEYERS, 52, of Freehold Township died June 15 at Barbara E. Cheung Memorial Hospice, Edison. Born in Philadelphia, she had lived in Manhattan before moving to Freehold Township 25 years ago. She was a religious education teacher for the past 15 years at several temples in the area, including Temple Shaari Emeth, Manalapan; Freehold Jewish Center, Freehold; and Temple Rodeph Torah, Marlboro. She also tutored children in preparation for their bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah. She was a member of Temple Shaari Emeth. She is survived by her husband, Edmund; a son and daughter, Douglas and Dana; two brothers, Alan and Ronald Siegel, of Philadelphia; and a sister, Iris Segal of Haverford, Pa. Interment took place at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

ISAAC STEINBERG, 92, of Freehold Township, died June 15 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York City, he had lived in Flushing, Queens, N.Y. and in West Palm Beach, Fla., before moving to Freehold Township five years ago. He was a postal supervisor in Queens and later became a biology lab instructor at Bryant High School, Queens, for 10 years before retiring in 1976. He served as a medic in World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was predeceased by his wife, Faye, who died in 1975; and two sisters, Lena Steinberg and Sara Berkowitz. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Abe Abloeser of Freehold; and two grandchildren. The funeral service was officiated by Cantor Wayne Siet, followed by interment at Beth Moses Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.

AL DIAMOND, 72, of the Covered Bridge adult community in Manalapan, died June 17 at Monmouth Medical Hospice Center, Long Branch. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to Manalapan 22 years ago. He was the owner and operator of Diamond Glass and Mirror Works, Brooklyn, for 30 years before retiring in 1980. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl, who died in 2001. He is survived by his wife, Gloria (née Gelber); two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bruce and Marsha of Marlboro, and Lawrence of Parlin; a son-in-law, Warren Diamond of Locust section of Middletown; and four grandchildren. Interment took place at King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

Dr. Bernie Zilbergeld, 63, of Oakland, Calif., died June 19 of complications due to diabetes. Born and raised in Freehold Borough, he was a graduate of Freehold Regional High School. He was a psychotherapist and author. Among his best-know works are Male Sexuality and The Shrinking of America. He is survived by a daughter, Claire Zilbergeld of San Francisco; a brother, George Zilbergeld of Freehold; and a sister, Hannah Gordon of New York.

EDWARD JOHN AQUILA, 75, of Howell died June 7 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Paterson, he lived in the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township before moving to Howell in 1995. He was an arson investigator for PSE&G, Newark, for 33 years, retiring in 1986. He was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Farmingdale, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Freehold. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marion Adams Aquila, in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Philben Aquila; a stepson, Thomas "TJ," and his wife, Jennifer Gerstenberg of Freehold Township; two step-daughters and their husbands, Loretta and Toby Roe of Howell, and Carol and Christopher Anderson of Fairfax, Va.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were private. Entombment was in Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.

CARMELA CATANIA, 80, of Marlboro, died June 7 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived there until moving to Marlboro one year ago. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Cosmo; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Paula of Marlboro and James and Carolyn of Campbell Hall, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro, followed by interment at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn.

PETER W. HANSEN, 73, formerly of Freehold Borough, died June 7 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Born in Philadelphia, he lived in Keyport before moving to Freehold 40 years ago. He was employed as a division superintendent for Jersey Central Power & Light for 40 years, retiring 14 years ago. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1946 to 1948. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold; the Free and Accepted Masons, Matawan Lodge No. 192; and the Freehold Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Maurer; three sons, Peter III of Delran, Patrick of Freehold Township and Paul of Freehold Borough; two daughters, Penny Ketcham and Pamela Temple, both of Freehold; a sister, Dorothy Gunther of Florida; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were private.

BARBARA L. UNDERSTILLER, 64, of Manalapan, died June 7 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Nyack, N.Y., she lived in Oakland, Calif., before moving to Manalapan 18 years ago. She was a bookkeeper for King Cars, Freehold Township, for 13 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Haag, who died in 1988; and her father, Richard Understiller, in 1984. Ms. Understiller is survived by her mother and stepfather, Edith and John McAlevy of Manalapan; a son, Kurt Haag of Washington State; an aunt, Lois Sterling of Freehold Township; two uncles; and one grandson. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

HUSSEIN O. ALI, 41, of Freehold Township died June 8 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. He was born in Cyprus. He was a fence installer for Dorre Fence Co., Farmingdale. He is survived by his mother, Nazire Mustafa Ali of Freehold; a brother, Mustafa Ali of Manalapan; and three sisters, Selma Lambiro and Naciye Ali, both of Freehold Township, and Inci Aurora of Dover, Del. Funeral services were held at East Windsor Cemetery, East Windsor Township.

RAYMOND G. OLLETT, 88, of Manalapan died June 8 at home. Born in Far Rockaway, Queens, N.Y., he lived in the Bronx, N.Y., and Howell before moving to Manalapan in 2000. He was a warehouse manager at Alfred Dunhill of London, and a tobacco importer in Manhattan, retiring in 1974. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Molly Pitcher Stamp Club and the Men’s Club at The Villages, Howell. He was predeceased by his wife, Anita, in 2000. He is survived by a son, Raymond Jr. of Denver; a daughter, Diane Schechter of Manalapan; a brother, Harold of St. George, Utah; a sister, Ethel Sullivan of Connecticut; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services, officiated by Cantor Wayne Siet, were followed by interment at Freehold Hebrew Cemetery, Freehold.

EMILIE STOCKERT, 70, of Freehold Township died June 8 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Germany, she had lived in Middletown for 27 years before moving to Freehold Township four years ago. She was a real estate agent for Murphy Realty–Better Homes and Gardens, Middletown. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post No. 2179, Middletown. She is survived by a daughter, Katharina Dean of Brick; a sister, Elfriede Nagel of Germany; and one grandson.
