Girl Scouts thanked for all of their work on behalf of food pantry

The Freehold Township food pantry has a new name — HOPE (Help Other People Eat). Girl Scout Troop 506 of Freehold Township should be congratulated.

This small group of young ladies has a lot to be proud of. To earn their Silver Award, they had to perform a community service project. They not only came in and cleaned and organized the food pantry, they conducted a food drive, collecting and purchasing well over $1,000 in food and food certificates.

Freehold Township awarded each of the young ladies with a certificate of appreciation, and they were recognized at a Township Committee meeting.

The Girl Scouts awarded them with sterling silver bracelets.

While they were working in the pantry, the girls mentioned that the food pantry should have a name. I suggested to them that they submit names, we would have township employees vote on a new name, and whoever had the name that was chosen would receive a $50 savings bond.

Well, they again went beyond and put the contest out to all the elementary schools in Freehold Township. The girls voted on names submitted to narrow things down and presented me with eight names for the contest. Those names were then voted on by township employees.

When all was said and done, these young ladies sent me a thank-you.

Thank you, for exemplifying the true spirit of the Girl Scouts, giving. sharing, love, compassion.
