HELEN MICKEY BROWN, 67, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown died May 3 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, she resided there until moving to Port Monmouth seven years ago. She was a retired licensed practical nurse at Harborview Geriatrics, Jersey City, where she worked for two years. Prior to that, she was the owner and operator of Maple Grocery and Deli, Jersey City. She was a former communicant of St. Mary’s Byzantine Church, Jersey City. She was a 1988 graduate of Jersey City Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Brown in 1994; her daughter, Maureen Michele Brown in 1971; and her brother, John Fedorchak in 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Helen Brown of Port Monmouth; two brothers, Peter Fedorchak of Westwood, and Gregory Fedorchak of Freehold; two brothers-in-law, Fred Brown of Jersey City, and Richard Brown of Matawan; and her cousin. Visitation will be May 8 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be May 9 at 8 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial will be at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo section of Middletown. ABE LINDEN, 84, of Freehold died April 25 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had been a resident of Freehold for the past 45 years. Mr. Linden owned Harpur Furniture in Staten Island, N.Y., for 28 years until his retirement at age 65. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a member of Congregation Sons of Israel, Manalapan, where he was active in the Men’s Cub. Mr. Linden was predeceased by his wife, Betty (née Schneider), and a brother, Seymour Lipkowitz. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ivan and Elise Linden of Manalapan; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bruce Pueschel of Manalapan; two brothers, Irving Lipkowitz of Savannah, Ga., and Elliott Lipkowitz of Parsippany; and four grandchildren. SAUL SCHWARTZ, 81, of Marlboro died April 26 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Clifton before moving to Marlboro 16 years ago. Mr. Schwartz was the owner of S.L. Schwartz and Sons, Passaic, before his retirement in 1984. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a prisoner of war in Germany. He flew 42 missions on a B-24 before being captured. Mr. Schwartz is survived by his wife, Albertine; a son, Mark of Haddonfield; a daughter, Susan of Lodi; a brother, Mordy of Lake Worth, Fla.; a sister, Rosyln of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Saddle Brook. IONA L. HUNT of Freehold died April 27 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Portland, Jamaica, West Indies, she had lived in Panama and New York before moving to Freehold 43 years ago. She was a graduate of Shitchfield College. A teacher and a seamstress, she established a boarding-home business in Freehold. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Freehold. She was predeceased by her husband, William W. Hunt, who died in 1968. Surviving are a son and daughter-in law, Charles and Hope Phillips; three cousins, Gloria Alkins, Beverly McDonald and Marcia Grey; and close friends Clair and George Warren, Stella Mayes and Mary Diaz. Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. ANGELO ATTANASIO, 79, of Howell died April 28 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Italy, he had lived in Linden before moving to the Surrey Downs community, Howell, 16 years ago. Mr. Attanasio owned and operated Mr. A’s Father and Son Hairstyling, Linden, until his retirement in 1989. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 2859, third degree; the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 913; and the American Legion, Post 0102, all of Linden. He also volunteered his services at the Senior Citizens Club of Linden and St. Elizabeth’s Church, Linden. Mr. Attanasio is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosina; a son, Angelo C. of Marlboro; a daughter, Rosemarie Nunziato of Freehold Township; two sisters, Mary Shamy of Clark and Theresa Italia of Linden; and two grandsons. The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by entombment at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. BENN NIEMTZOW, 92, of Freehold died April 29. Born in the Adelphia section of Howell, he had been a resident of Freehold since 1914. Mr. Niemtzow was a lawyer for 64 years and in his legal practice he created legal precedents and facilitated legislation. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion, who died in October. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Pola W. and Stan Wang of Moorestown, and Ellen and Charles Fischbein of Cheshire, Conn.; a son, Mord’chai Tsvi (Miles H.) Niemtzow, who was caregiver to his parents in their home; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Interment was in the Freehold Hebrew Benefit Society Cemetery, Freehold Township. BARBARA ANN KAISER WALSH, 70, of Manalapan died April 29 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had been a resident of Manalapan for the past 30 years. Mrs. Walsh was a graduate of the Mountainside School of Nursing. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. She was predeceased by a brother, George Kaiser. Mrs. Walsh is survived by her husband, Deacon John J.; two sons, Michael and Daniel, both of Manalapan; seven daughters, Dr. Susan Walsh of Maplewood, Kathy Walsh of East Brunswick, Dr. Eileen Gallagher of Glenmont, N.Y., Maureen Walsh of Bordman, Ohio, Mary Walsh of Manalapan, Barbara Killian of Reading, Mass., and Jane Bowman of Dedham, Mass.; a brother, Robert Kaiser; and 12 grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated by the Rev. John P. Bambrick at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas More Church, 186 Gordons Corner Road, Manalapan 07726. CLARENCE E. DENHAM, 74, of Freehold Township died April 30 at home. Born in Ada, Okla., he had lived in Atlanta, Ga., before moving to Freehold Township in 1971. Mr. Denham was the director of the Division of Motor Vehicles Freehold Office from 1980 until his retirement in 1996. From 1972-80 he owned and operated Snelling & Snelling Employment Agency, New Brunswick, and before that he was director of operations for Continental Baking Co., Jersey City. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Denham was a member of the Sunrise Optimist Club of Freehold, where he served as president and achieved the status of distinguished president in 1986 and 1987. He was also a member of the Freehold Optimist Club, where he served as district membership chairman, lieutenant governor, district new club building chairman, treasurer, and president, and achieved both distinguished and outstanding lieutenant governor status. He was inducted into the New Jersey Optimist District Hall of Fame in 1998. He was a former member of the Freehold Township Planning Board, the Freehold Township Industrial Committee and the Manasquan River Regional Sewerage Authority. He also was a former director and coach in the Freehold Township Little League and was active in the Freehold Township High School Booster Club. Mr. Denham was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn, who died in 1995. Surviving are four sons, Kevin P. of Chesapeake, Va., Paul A. of Charleston, S.C., Brian A. of Bayville and Michael S. of Freehold Township; a brother, Charles E. of Monroe, Calif.; three grandchildren; and his friend and companion, Gloria Gildersleeve. PETER JOSEPH GALATI, 18, of Manalapan died April 30 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, N.Y., Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had been a resident of Manalapan for most of his life. Peter was a senior at Manalapan High School. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. He is survived by his parents, Patricia and Peter Galati of Manalapan; a brother, Andrew, and a sister, Jennifer, both at home; his grandparents, Guiseppe and Maria Galati of Toms River; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702. NICOLA ROCCO CRUPI, 87, of Freehold Township died May 3 in Freehold Township. Born in Italy, he lived in Red Bank for many years before moving to Freehold Township five years ago. Mr. Crupi was a self-employed carpenter in Red Bank until his retirement 17 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Fair Haven. Mr. Crupi was predeceased by his wife, Maria, who died in 1995. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Donna of Howell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dora and Ron Mussenden of Manalapan, and Francesca and Emile Savia of Freehold Township; a sister, Maria Rizzo of Italy; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
