Motorists should slow down and obey traffic signals

I am unclear about the driving rules in Manalapan. I always understood that the color red on a traffic signal meant stop. Yet day after day, I have been forced while having the right of way to hit my brakes because someone fails to stop at a stop sign or a red light signal. No daily activity constitutes disobeying the signals.

On Taylors Mills Road eastbound approaching Tennent Road, people go "right through the red light" not "right on red."

All will agree that our lives as well as our children’s lives are more valuable than other residents having to rush to their children’s bus stop, sports or afternoon activities. Emergencies happen of course and still require caution. But cell phone conversations while driving, poor timing and lateness, or just plain carelessness to obey signals will cause damage to property and will take lives.

We moved here to enjoy safe lives. I urge people to slow down on our roads and be aware that red signals prevent you from hurting our families as you drive.

Please drive carefully.
