Women’s club marks 35 years of service

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — The GFWC Molly Pitcher Woman’s Club of Freehold Township is celebrating 35 years of volunteer service to the community, state and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

The local club will hold a celebration luncheon at the American Hotel, Free-hold, on March 19. The business session will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the afternoon program arranged by Gertrude Whitaker. Bill Zawicki of the Monmouth County Master Gardeners will offer suggestions for community improvement.

The guest of honor will be Linda Babeuf of Rumson, fifth district vice president of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Charter members and past presidents of the club will also be recognized. Historian Marion Weber will highlight the club activities.

The GFWC Molly Pitcher Woman’s Club was organized in 1966 and was federated in 1967.

In support of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ "Libraries 2000" project, members donated books to the Freehold Public Library and after-school program. Members also support the Ronald McDonald House, collect labels from Campbell’s soup cans and box tops for the General Mills Box Tops for Education program, support a plastic recycling project and extend a hand to those in need. The most recent project is to improve the area around the Molly Pitcher spring at Monmouth Battlefield State Park with a natural walkway, overlook deck and bench to make the area more accessible for visitors.

The luncheon is open to all women interested in learning about the club.

Reservations are required; call (732) 462-7233. For membership information, call (732) 462-9164.
